I used Expedia to reserve a rental car last month. Then a $60 fee showed up on my credit card for facilitating the rental. Disputing with the credit card. If Expedia said anything about it, they did so in small print. Comes as a complete surprise.

That’s bullshit - - I don’t think I’ve ever used Expedia, but other sites don’t charge for booking rental cars, and $60 is a f*cking ripoff.

BTW - I keep seeing ads for ‘cheapoair.com’ and it drives me batty that they advertise cheap prices — they are the same as everyone else EXCEPT they charge a $35 booking fee. Fuck them.

Rookie mistake. Always book directly with the rental company.

I generally use aggregator sites then call the companies directly.

hehehe - that’s exactly my strategy, too.

Except that my company also has a corporate rate with National and Enterprise, which is *usually* cheaper than the aggregators, but not always.

You didn’t reply to my airplane question. MH370. Could the pilot depressurize the cabin from the flight station?

I was in a rush and nothing that Expedia presented me with made their fee at all obvious.

What would be the process? Open a valve or something?

Mostly by shutting of the bleed air from the engine

What exactly is the fee? I did an Expedia rental last month and am now wondering if I have a fee coming my way.

Interesting. Even if done gradually, wouldn’t folks’ ears be popping?

If they are popping, what can they do?

On the credit card statement, they gave no term nor reason, and unlike most other folks, gave no 800 number, only their URL, which has no 800 number on it. Clearly a scammy way to go about it.

I would expect pandemonium for a few minutes until everyone succumbed. FAs have bottled oxygen available, don’t they? But it wouldn’t last long.

Lady from the CC company said she saw the situation much as I did. And unlike other companies whose charges show on my CC statement, Expedia’s gave no 800 number and neither is there an 800 number on their website.

Yea, seems incredibly shady. Did your credit card company give you anything to work with?

I have never seen thing and know that other sites I’ve used don’t.

Also, just use those fools to find the best price then book through a rental company’s site if you can. I often get ridiculous deals.

Like I have a trip in July to a stupid flyover location where my parents live that has unreal high prices for rental cars (and even worse for SUVs). I got a premium brand SUV reserved for less than the cost of a mainstream full size car that wouldn’t fit everyone...

when I was booking my rental car, at the last second I noticed an additional line item and canceled. I restated the booking, and noticed that there was an additional insurance with the box checked by default.
